After stressing on my laptop for an hour, then the next day wondering whats happening with this new install of Ubuntu and the addition of VPNC, well what solved the problem for me was to actually restart the system, why didn’t I try that before? I have never restarted “Linux” unless I had to before. After rebooting the errors disappeared and the VPN worked. Yes after all that pondering on the problem, a simple restart after the installation of VPNC solved the “no valid secrets” problem. I hope this bit of information helps someone out there that has come across this.
